Craig R. Uhland

For Craig R. Uhland I had hoped that I could stand up before all of you at Craig's Service and read these words but also felt my tears would begin and take away from what I would like to share that we all knew of this great man as well the times we can forever cherish. For all of us that were fortunate enough to receive a 'hand-written' letter or card from Craig via 'snail-mail’, knew all to well it was worth the wait to read his words or wisdom or poetry and much more personal than receiving an e-mail. He often shared his thought and greetings in the form of a rhyme, and if you did the same in return you understand it took some time. He reminded us take each day in stride... and let small challenges go by the way-side. He never forgot a birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day, Father's Day or that he just wanted to say 'Just remember that I am thinking of you' or he would leave a phone message 'to be watching your mail'. His letters expressed his love of his daughters, family, longtime friends, Smith Valley, his work and/or current project, the many critters he fed and watered that you could feel such a strong connection. His very vivid descriptions could almost bring to the paper a mirroring reflection. He was always so loving and blessed with many a gift, even when times were a challenge he always did his best to give us a lift. He taught us to remember life as a simple pleasure and that the distance between us was only a measure. He did not like a lot of personal attention and often wish to be elusive just as a Chukar Partridge. If only he could spend his days in his workshop, with his girls, or sitting high atop the nearest mountain ridge. His work was always so impeccable and the explanation of the process and schedule did not leave you a bit confused. He brought together a fine crew of craftsman, all very passionate about their work and the products they used. Life myself we all came to depend on our dear friend Craig Uhland, and believed he would win this battle with Cancer and keep the upper hand. Unfortunately, the outcome was not as we had hoped...but times like this show us that our Higher Power has a much different plan. And even though we will miss him dearly in real time we can feel honored to have known such a generous and loving man. At this time please remember that Craig is indeed 'thinking of all of us' and leave with the following words. Your connection wish your loved ones could put you in a more loving and understanding mood today. Perhaps because of your ability to empathize with the struggles, hopes, and joys of the people who are closest to you, you may find it easier to understand and share in what is happening in their lives. Providing support and encouragement in sincere and non-critical ways could create closer bonds in your relationships and pave the way for more open and trusting communication. Pain comes and it goes. It is just one component to the grand cycle of life. And when experienced as such, pain can serve as an important teacher. It is when we get stuck in our pain that it becomes detrimental to our well-being and development. We can all take a moment to thank our Higher Power that for Craig that pain is now gone. May he rest in peace...and forever be in our hearts. Love, hugs and smiles across the miles ~ Suz & Aaron
