It was truly a privilege to have had the opportunity to work with Dudley for over 20 years, nine of those as a close associate. He was truly an outstanding educator and one that was admired and respected by all who were fortunate enough to have worked with him.

Condolence From: Sharon (Smith) Zenz
Condolence: I was a junior at Reed the first year that Mr. Cate was principal. Any time that I had a grievance - and I had a lot of them! - I would go to his office. He left word with his secretary to just wave me through, unless he was in a meeting, and I spent the next two years showing up unannounced at his office, to gripe about this or that. He always listened - always. He didn't change policy, or let me have things my way, but the fact that he listened made a huge difference to an angry kid. He signed my yearbook, as though we were friends. I'd like to leave thanks with his family, for that kindness extended so many years ago.
