Helen Cecilia Brown (Baca) passed away peacefully at home in Reno on Monday May 28, 2018 at the age of 93. Helen was born April 24, 1925 in Reno. Helen graduated from Sparks High in 1944 and met her late husband of 74 years John while working at the Riverside Hotel where John worked as a bellhop and Helen at the soda counter. She was a loving mother of five and grandmother/great-grandmother of thirteen. Her love of family and friends was unconditional. She was an incredible wife, mother and a dear friend to many. Helen was warm and gracious to friends and strangers alike and had a great sense of humor. Helen particularly enjoyed travelling with family & friends. Later in life, Helen found that she had a real talent for painting, which she took to effortlessly.

Helen enjoyed the St. Mary’s luncheons and her Bridge group right up until her passing. She was very active in community organizations including the St. Mary’s Guild, Washoe Medical Guild, and Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club. Helen was always involved in her children’s activities, serving as a board member and official of the Far West Ski Association and regular chaperone for Reno Falcons ski team trips.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband John Brown Sr., mother and father Bertha and Stephan Baca, sisters Frances(Baca) Phillips, Lucinda Baca and son Steven Brown. Helen is survived by her children Nancy Risley (Curtis), Gini Solinsky (Peter), John Brown (Georgia), and Anita Brown, grandchildren C.J. Risley, Kimberly Mathisen-Nurre (Dave), Stephanie Risley, Jami Keith (Carl), Steven Brown, Thomas Brown (Erin), Andrea Worl (Scott), and great-grandchildren Jack, Jake, Michael, Helena, Lili, Piper, Cohen and Bradley. Helen will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Georgianna Duxbury, Mary, Kindred Hospice, and Senior Helpers for taking such great care of Helen and the family at a difficult time.

The Rosary will be Wednesday June 6th at 6:00 p.m. at Walton’s 875 W. 2nd St., Reno and the service will be held at 1:00 pm June 7, 2018 at Our Lady of Snows Church, 1138 Wright St., Reno with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to Truckee Meadows Boys & Girls Club or a charity of your choice.
