Frank J. Miccile, 94, of Spanish Springs, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 1st at his home at Cascades of the Sierra. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (Pentes) Miccile who died in 2005 with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Natick, MA, he was the son of the late Vitale and Ida (Biagetti) Miceli. Mr. Miccile attended Natick Schools and was a graduate of Natick High School class of 1942. After graduation he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during W.W. II, in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked at General Motors before moving to Steubenville, Ohio to work with his brother-in-law Andrew (Pat) Pentes at La Belle News Agency until his retirement in 1988. In 1992, Frank and Josephine moved to Reno, Nevada to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They loved spending time with their family and attending mass at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.
Frank enjoyed the simple things in life and will be most remembered for the moments that were quintessentially “Frank.” He never lost his Bostonian accent, and when it was paired with his comfortable use of four letter words, it always brought laughs and smiles from all he met. Frank loved sports and gambling. When he and Josephine lived in Steubenville, they enjoyed going to the track to watch the horse races together. The seasons of the year were not measured by Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, but by the sports seasons. He loved college and NFL football and the horse races and always believed sports were more fun to watch when you had a small wager on the game. It was appropriate that he didn’t pass until he had finished watching his beloved Boston Bruins play the Pittsburgh Penguins. His friends at Cascades of the Sierra fondly remember the predictability of him taking ice cream back to his room every evening for a snack and his 3:00 Bingo group will finally have a chance to win a game. Frank always enjoyed his outings to Casale’s Halfway club, where he declared they served the “best spaghetti in town.”
He is survived by his children and grandchildren John F. Miccile (Therese) of Reno (Dominic and the late Nathanael), Fay Miccile of Reno (Lauren Renda, Kristen Renda and Anthony Renda), and Paul Miccile (Laura) of Kent, WA (Katherine and Andrew), and many nieces and nephews. Frank was the last surviving sibling in his family and was pre-deceased by Bruno Balducci, Jack Balducci, Viola (Balducci) McNally, Mary (Miccile) Leone, Gertrude (Miccile) Wells, Anthony Miccile, Louis Miccile, and Joseph Miccile.
The family is especially thankful to the staff of Cascades of the Sierra, Liberty Dialysis of Reno, and all his caregivers over the last year who took such good care of him. And a special note of thanks and love is extended to Tom Reid and his family for looking over him. Not only was Tom his unofficial “bookie” but he was a loving, supportive friend, and was like a son to Frank.
