Obituary for Dorothy "Dottie" Elizabeth Cooksy

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Dorothy Elizabeth Cooksy, known to all around her as “Dottie”.

Dottie was born on June 11, 1931, in Jesup, Georgia, and passed away peacefully on July 18, 2017, in Reno, Nevada, at her home, surrounded by family, after long illness.

Dottie embraced a full and rich life with her extended family and with friends from her community and church. She was always a center of activities both with natural and adopted loved ones. She lived for many years in Reno and before that in Savannah and Las Vegas. She was “grandma” to a wide circle of people who cared for her and appreciated her enjoyment of life – her empathy and her humor and her faith.

She was predeceased by almost a decade by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Cooksy, and also by her dear youngest son, Roger Beasley. She is survived by her oldest son, Larry Beasley (William Logan, called “Sandy”), her step-son, Marvin Beasley (Sherry), and step-daughters Glenna Strong (Robert, called “Bob”) and Julie Cooksy. She is also survived by her grandson, Leon Dwiggins (Christen Van Treeck); her step-grandchildren, Garrett II Adams (Lori), Whitney May (Scott), Aaron Adams (Danielle Giurlani), Chelsea Valdes (Jairo), Ashley Viles, Alixara Cooksy, and Richard Ryan; and her step-great grandchildren Garrett III Adams, Raegan Adams, Carter May, Makenzie May, and Abril Valdes.

She is predeceased by her parents, Oliff and Cora Edenfield, and her brothers, Cecil, Roland, William and Marlin Edenfield. She is survived by her brother, David Edenfield and sister, Betty Biondo, both particularly beloved to her.

Betty and Dottie’s dog, Misty, seems lost without her grandma.

A memorial service and celebration of Dottie’s life were held with close family and friends on Friday, July 21, 2017. A visitation for all to say a final goodbye will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017, from 1:00 – 3:00pm, at Ross, Burke, and Knobel Mortuary at 2155 Kietzke Lane in Reno, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, the family would endorse a contribution to Renown Hospice Care.
