Obituary for Mary Alice Petty

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Alice Petty announces her passing on June 5, 2017 at the age of 71. Mary Alice will be greatly missed by her husband and best friend, Bill; their children Donna (John) Allen, David (Carlene) Frickhoeffer, Laura (Scott) Alcantar, Rick Petty, and Erin (Tom) Van Goethem; grandchildren Alex (Melissa) Alcantar, Zachary (Sarah) Alcantar, Reese Petty, and LeeAnn Frickhoeffer, and two great-grandsons Max and Gavin.

Born June 15, 1945 in Asheville, North Carolina, Mary Alice earned her Bachelors degree at Western Carolina University and lived throughout the NC area until the mid 1970s when, with courage and determination, she packed her two small children and moved west to Reno. She married William Richard Petty Sr. in 1979 and together they ran a successful business for more than 35 years. She loved bowling and tested for her Senior Red Belt in Tae Kwon Do- one of the only grandmothers to achieve that goal. She and Bill enjoyed fishing in Canada, traveling all over and spending weekends at Lake Almanor.

A celebration of life will be held on June 15, 2017, what would have been her 72nd birthday, at 11 am at Walton’s Funeral Home Sierra Chapel 875 W. 2nd Street in Reno. The family invites you to leave a condolence message at: www.waltonsfuneralhomes.com
