Obituary for Leo Longobardo

Leo Gene Longobardo passed into eternal life at his home on April 25, in Reno at the age of 90. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Nita, his sons Terry (Carol), Sam, and daughter Kim Awisus (Mark). He also left behind his beloved grandchildren Travis (Viki), Camron, (Denise) Skyler, Mitchell, and Micah, and his three adorable great-grandchildren Xander, Bradlee, and Rowan.
Leo grew up in Idaho, served his country right out of high school, and later graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Master’s Degree in Education. He and his family moved to Reno in 1955 where he taught history and driver’s education and coached football and baseball at Reno High School for 30 years. In addition, he was the “voice of the Reno High Huskies” announcing football games with his distinctive and memorable voice for many years after his retirement.
He was an active member at St. Thomas Aquinas for 56 years where he was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Council, and was involved in many other church related events.
Leo was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be missed more than words can express. Sayonara Poppi -until we meet again! We love you and will miss you!!
A rosary is scheduled for Friday, May 19 at 6:30 pm at Walton’s Funeral Home - Sierra Chapel. (895 W. 2nd street, Reno 89503)
A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas (310 West 2nd St. ), Reno, NV on Saturday, May 20 at 12:00 pm with a reception following in the church hall.
