Obituary for Louis Kenneth Emanuel

Louis “Ken” Emanuel passed away in Reno on February 26, 2017, at the age of 85. He was born and raised in North Bend Nebraska.

After graduating in 1951, Ken enlisted in the US Navy and spent 39 months on the USS Valley Forge. In 1954, after serving two tours in Korea, he was honorably discharged and returned to attend college.

He spent 2 years attending college in Nebraska before moving to Reno to finish his degree at UNR in secondary education. Somehow he also managed to work-in becoming an electrician in Colorado while getting his degree.

Ken taught math at Vaughn Middle School for 5 years before returning to the electrical trade. After spending years working as a master electrician, he opened his own construction company, from which he retired in 1995.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Quilici Emanuel, son, Daniel Emanuel (Liz), daughter, Debbie Primm, daughter, Kathy Ovenstone (Robert), grandchildren, Rachel, and Jay Primm, and Kaitlin Ovenstone, his brother-in-law, Dick Papa, sister-in-law, Gloria Quilici, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard, and Anne Emanuel and four sister’s, Pat, Bernice, Rita and Celine.

Ken was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed camping, motorcycle riding, hunting and golfing. But people will always remember him as the wonderful father, husband and grandfather that he was; his family was everything to him.

A mass will be held at St. Rose a Lima Church on March 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Veteran’s Guest House at 775-324-6958.
