Obituary for Jacinto "Sonny" Medina, Jr.

Jacinto “Sonny” Medina, Jr. passed away on January 25, 2017, at the age of 73, surrounded by his family. He was born to Jacinto and Elvera Medina on November 8, 1943 in Jerome, AZ.

He graduated from Kingman High School and attended Arizona State University on a basketball scholarship. He later continued his education at Northern Nevada Community College in Elko, NV.

Sonny enlisted in the Army in 1966 and was deployed to Vietnam where he participated in the Tet Offensive. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

Sonny had a long career in the telecommunication business starting as an office installer working his way up to management positions in local telephone companies in Elko, NV and Tonopah, NV. He ended his career in a consulting capacity in Indonesia, Hungary and Mexico.

Sonny was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers fan. Many hours were spent with his family rooting on his favorite teams. In his younger years, he spent many hours on the golf course. Later in life he enjoyed woodworking and has left most family members with something hand made. He had a big presence and loved to joke.

Sonny leaves behind his wife of 46 years Pat; his daughter Stephanie Medina-Vogt (Codey); his sons, Michael (Leta) and Matthew (Alexis); his brother Daniel Medina and honorary family Arlene Goben and Shawn Goben. His 4 grandchildren: Erica, Libby, Jaxom and Miles were the light of his life. He was much loved and will be missed by friends and family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 1 pm at Walton’s 875 W. Second Street Reno, NV with an inurnment at a later date.
