Elaine Windous Nickovich-Otte, 81, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2013. Elaine was born in Ely, Nevada on July 8, 1932. She was the daughter of Thomas and Gladys Cazier Windous.

Elaine grew up on a ranch in Ely, NV. She later moved to Reno, where she attended Northside Junior High and Reno High School. Elaine was a third generation native, a true and passionate Nevadan. She was especially proud to be from Ely, NV.

Elaine retired from Nevada Bell and went on to become a telecommunications consultant.

Elaine’s extensive volunteering in the Reno community earned her a distinguished presidential volunteer service award coming directly from a sitting U.S. President at the White House in Washington D.C. She was a member of many volunteer organizations, including Reno Emblem Club, Washoe County Sheriff’s CERT and SMART teams.

Elaine was a firm supporter of The University of Nevada Reno Speech Pathology and Audiology Department. She worked tirelessly through Reno Emblem Club and various other volunteering to help raise funds for this program.

Elaine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she actively participated in many jobs, services, and activities. Elaine was a true lady. She never met a person that didn’t become her friend, and there was never a trip she didn’t take. Elaine spent her later years traveling the world with her current husband Denny Otte. Elaine had a zeal for life and all the people she met. She also loved her family and cherished being with loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband Vlado Nickovich. She is survived by her current husband Denny Otte, daughter Cathy Evanson, sons; Thomas (Tonja) and Michael (Gina) Nickovich, grandchildren; Ryan, Robert, Wylie, Cody, Tye, Kyle, Trystan, and Calvin.

A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Friday, January 3, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1095 Golconda Drive, Reno, NV. A viewing is scheduled at 1:00 pm, preceding the funeral. Entombment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
