Tammy Dermody, the owner of Walton’s, matched the donation so that it totaled $2,000. The Children’s Cabinet plans to use the donation to feed more than 550 families. “The Children’s Cabinet does so much good for our community and we are very happy to be able to help them,” said Dermody.

Walton’s Funerals & Cremations Honored at “Family Owned Business Awards” Program

Reno, NV (May 16, 2013) – Walton’s Funerals & Cremations was recently honored at the Family Owned Business Awards program, sponsored by Nevada Business Magazine and Nevada State Bank. Though the event is three years old, this is the first year it was held in Reno in addition to Las Vegas. There were almost 500 nominees statewide, with 30 finalists in each of 10 categories, and one winner per category. Walton’s won in the “Wisdom of Age” category, for companies that have been in business for 20 years or more.

OPERATION SWEATERS FOR VETERANS – THROUGH NOVEMBER 11

Reno, NV (November 7, 2014) – On November 11, Americans throughout the world will commemorate Veterans Day to thank our nation’s veterans for service given and sacrifices made to protect the freedoms of this nation. In conjunction with more than a thousand Veterans & Family Memorial Care (VFMC) Providers nationwide, Walton’s Funerals & Cremations is sponsoring the VFMC Operation Sweaters for Veterans initiative throughout Northern Nevada and Susanville.
Now through Veterans Day, November 11, Walton’s is collecting new or gently used sweaters and gloves for men and women, which will be distributed to Lassen County Veterans Services in Susanville, as well as the Homeless Veterans Outreach Program in Reno, for distribution to local veterans.
“This is just one small way we can support our heroes, and we’re honored to do our part,” said Tammy Dermody, owner of Walton’s.

The funds will be used to help provide Casa de Vida clients with doula services - professionals who provide women emotional, physical and informational support before, during and after childbirth.

Advance Planning Seminars Help Families Prepare

Reno—On June 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Walton's Funerals and Cremations will be hosting free Pre-Planning Seminars dealing with a variety of key topics for seniors.
“It’s important for families to be prepared in case of emergency,” said Rick Noel, Walton's Funerals and Cremations General Manager. “We see it every day, how families have to cope when they are unprepared. There’s a lot of stress and anxiety compounded by grief and doubt. There’s so much that can be done ahead of time to spare loved ones from needless pain and worry.”
• The seminars will feature local attorney, Timothy Riley, of Holland and Hart, who will discuss wills, estate plans, powers of attorney, living wills, how they work and who benefits most from these legal tools.
• Another featured speaker will be Anella Huneycutt, MSW with Saint Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada, who will discuss preserving quality of life for seriously ill individuals, as well as the benefits of hospice care for families being served.
• Leon Stone, Prearrangement Specialist, will speak on funeral plans and how you can alleviate financial and emotional burdens for your family at the time of loss simply by planning in advance.

Alan Frizzell Joins Cremation Society of Nevada

Reno, NV (July 24, 2014) – Alan Frizzell has been hired as the Manager for the three Cremation Society of Nevada locations in Reno and Sparks. He is responsible for managing John Sparks Memorial, Northern Nevada Memorial and Affinity Burial & Cremation; as well as facilitating services for the families.
He has seven years experience in the cremation business, having previously managed two other crematoriums. Frizzell is a licensed funeral director, as well as a certified cremationist. He has also earned his certificate in grief counseling. "This job allows me to help families during their most difficult times,” he said.
