Obituary for Donald C. (Robby) Robertson

Donald C. (Robby) Robertson, born to James Robertson and Clara Culver in Lance Creek, Wyoming on July 4, 1920. Robby started school in North Platt, Nebraska and attended numerous school in the mid-west before has family settled in Santa Monica, California in the 1930’s. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1938 and then attended Santa Monica Jr. College before joining the CCCs in the spring of 1940. He enlisted in the Navy in November of 1940. He then served on six aircraft carriers during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During this time he met and married Margaret Shue with whom he had two children. Robby retired off the USS Bonhomme Richard in the fall of 1960, after twenty years of service with the Navy, of which he was very proud, and immediately was employed by the University of Nevada, Reno as the athletic equipment manager. In the early 1960’s Robby’s wife, Margaret, died of brain cancer. Robby went on to serve twenty years with Nevada athletics, and again was very proud of his association with the fine and wonderful athletes he met over the years. In 1973 he married his second wife, Judith, and they had forty-five years wonderful years together. Robby was an avid hunter and fisherman. He dearly loved Nevada and all the wonderful outdoor activities that are available.
Robby is survived by his wife, Judith; daughters Melissa Kesner (Gary), Laurie Love (Don) Tracy Robertson; four grandchildren; one great grandson and nephews, Fred Bonn, Jim Bonn and Scott McCauley; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Military Honors Service will be held on Fri. Jan. 25, 2019 at 1PM at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, followed by a Celebration of Life at: 2885 Downing Court, Reno.
