Obituary for Anne Kay Marks

Print
Anne Kay Marks passed away at Brookdale of Reno on Saturday, November 11, 2018 after an extended struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Anne was a 4th generation Nevadan, with deep roots in Virginia City and a pride for her Irish heritage.
Anne was born in Reno at St. Mary’s hospital on June 4, 1946 and grew up in Virginia City. After graduating from Storey County High School in 1964, she moved to Reno and began studies in Cosmetology. Once finished, she returned to Virginia City and rented space with the barber in town on D Street, below the Brass Rail Saloon.
Anne also spent some time working in Carson City as a secretary in the Department of Transportation for the State of Nevada. Following her work for the state, she moved back to Reno where she began her work in, what would be a 42-year career in medical office management, with Dr. Fred Lieb and Dr. Charles McCuskey, Jr. Dr. Lieb asked if Anne would consider moving to Southern California to open a new office and she enthusiastically accepted, moving to Glendale, CA.
Working as Dr. Lieb’s office manager kept Anne quite busy, but she was able to assist another orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Tom Ackerson as a transcriptionist in his office. Following her work with Dr. Lieb, Anne worked as an office manager for Drs. Robert and Rafael Mendez, founders of the Mendez National Institute of Transplantation (MNIT) helping with the kidney transplant program at St. Vincent Medical Center, where she finished out her career in 2013. Anne returned to Reno after her Parkinson’s diagnosis and a decline in health, the same year.
Anne was a proud Irish woman. She loved southern California and her pets, most especially her little dogs. One of the highlights of her life was traveling to Ireland with Dee Dee. She also enjoyed attending Hollywood Bowl concerts, as well as volunteering for different events and was part of the Party Girls group in Los Angeles. She was active in her parish, St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pasadena, CA. She loved wine and loved to listen to music including songs from the 70’s, 80’s and classical, opera and traditional Irish music.
Anne is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Margaret Marks, and her sister, Mary (Marks) Hess VreNon. She is survived by her sister, Dee Dee (Marks) Rose, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (www.michaeljfox.org) and the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the caregivers at Brookdale of Reno.
