Obituary for Nancy O'Connor Hardy

Print
Nancy O'Connor Hardy, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2018. Born Nancy Rebecca O'Connor on February 4, 1925 to John Hugh O'Connor and Dorothy Edith Baldwin O'Connor of Watertown, Connecticut. She was a 1942 graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Connecticut, the first regional high school in New England.
After a whirlwind courtship and then a coast to coast train ride to Long Beach, CA, Nancy married Clare M. Raymer on October 10, 1944. At the end of the war the couple moved to Merced, CA where their 3 children were born. The family of 5 moved to Reno, NV in 1957 where Nancy remained until her death.
Having been divorced for several years, Nancy met and married her second husband, William Fine Hardy, whom she lovingly called "the old cowboy". They were married on November 16, 1973 and remained together until his death on September 19, 2000.
In 2003 Nancy met Albert S. Warren and after what she called a "slow start", the two fell in love and became a family until his death.
Nancy had a 23 year career with the Washoe County School District working as secretary at Rita Cannon Elementary School from 1962 until her retirement in 1985. Although she grew up in New England, she came to love all things Nevada and soon considered Nevada to be her true home. Nancy also served on the City of Reno Historical Resources Commission for several years which gave her the opportunity to fill a deeply rooted passion for preservation of the past. Her love of our state was such that you could name any ghost town in Nevada and she could tell you exactly where it was and give a detailed history of that particular town. Nancy loved to hike throughout the Nevada desert visiting these ghost towns and studying the indigenous vegetation.
Nancy is survived by her three children: daughter Bonnie C. Raymer Woods, son John C. Raymer, and daughter Katherine M. Raymer (Bruce O. Battaglia). She has three grandchildren: Shane C. Woods (1970-1995), Amanda (Richard) Petree, and Karly (Cameron) C. Siddens; and 4 great grandchildren. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring, the details of which will be published at a later date. The family invites you to leave a condolence message on the book of memories at: www.waltonsfuneralhomes.com
