Obituary for Jeryl Dean Jessop

Jeryl died peacefully in her home in Reno, October 15, 2018, at age 95 with her great-great- granddaughter, Connie, by her side. She was born to Lottie and Willy Clevenger in Vibbard, Missouri on December 26, 1922. She lived there and attended Vibbard schools until she graduated from high school. She moved with her family to McGill, Nevada where Willy and Jeryl worked for Kennecott Copper.

Jeryl married in McGill to Glenn Steven Jessop when he returned home from WWII. They lived in McGill with their two children until 1955 when Kennecott Copper went on strike. After a couple of moves, they moved to find work and landed in Reno, Nevada in 1957. Here she worked as a waitress and then as an accountant at the University of Nevada, Reno in the Controller’s Office. While at the university, she saw to it that her son, Merl, and her husband, Glenn, got their degrees in Education; graduating together in 1967. Glenn continued on to teach at Wooster High and Hug High. Upon Glenn’s death in 1988, Jeryl continued working for her son at his business, Plaza Machine Shop, in Reno. After retiring, she spent about 10 years volunteering at Hospice and Washoe Medical Center (now known as Renown).

Jeryl (known as Granny) had 3 sisters who precedes her in death and is survived by her 2 children, Merl K. and Ruth Marie; 7 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

She was a very self-sufficient person who lived alone by her son for the last 30 years.

She will be greatly missed by her best friend, Sandi Jessop, and all of her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

“WE LOVE YOU GRANNY”
