Obituary for Irene Ann Ballinger

Irene Ballinger, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, July 28, 2018. She was born in LaRue, Ohio on June 21, 1929 to the late Anna (Wolf) and Esley Benson. Irene graduated in 1947 from LaRue High School, where she excelled in academics.
Irene worked for many years at the LaRue branch of Campbell National Bank, rising to the position of branch manager.
Irene moved to California in 1988 to be near her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the Rancho Mirage, CA Sunrise Country Club community, where she served as president of the women’s Putters group. She enjoyed playing bridge at the club, and she could often be found leading the girls in song during water exercise classes. She was an avid walker.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and six brothers. She is survived by her sister, Barbara J. Cronin and seven devoted children: Michael Ballinger (Ronda) of Gardnerville, NV, William Ballinger (Katharine) of Reno, NV, Ann Ballinger Mathewson of Reno, NV, Jane Ballinger of Claremont, CA, Jude Ballinger (Goulash) of Reno, NV, Thomas Ballinger (Julia) of Reno, NV, and Jan Ballinger Rumball of Incline Village, NV; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Irene was a voracious reader, and she enjoyed spending time with family, eating out, traveling and attending movies and concerts. She was loved and admired by everyone she knew.
