B. (Barbara) Alice Schafer passed June 26 at her home in Reno. She was born March 23, 1931 to Carl and Barbara Shelly of Sparks Nevada. She attended Robert Mitchel Elementary, Sparks Jr. High and Sparks High School graduating in 1948. While in school she participated in drama, the school newspaper, and was a majorette. When she was 13 she starred in the Reno Little Theater production of Jr Miss.
She entered the University of Nevada and became a member of Tri Delta Sorority and as a senior was the president of the Pan Hellenic Council. In 1951 she was the Grand Worthy Advisor, Order of Rainbow, for the State of Nevada
She and high school sweetheart, Jerry (Gerard) Schafer were married April 1952 and in June of that year after they both graduated from the University, they moved to Schenectady New York where Jerry was an engineer with General Electric and Alice pursued her teaching career prior to starting their family.
They returned to Sparks to be near her family when Jerry retired. She found an active life first working for her father at Shelly’s Hardware and later as a member of the Assistance League.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Roberson and Lee Schafer, granddaughter, Jessica Roberson and grandson, Jason Roberson (Amber), and a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Bryan. She is also survived by her brother, Bruce Shelly (Nancy) and his family.
There will not be a service, but donations may be made to your favorite charity or the Assistance League of Reno/Sparks, or the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
