Obituary for Forest Lawson

On Saturday, May 19th, 2018, Forest Lawson, passed away quietly after 94 years following a brief hospital stay in Sparks.

Forest was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and is survived by his children Amy Lawson Harvey and Clif Harvey, William and Jennifer Lawson, Michael and Christine Lawson, Mark and Lynn Lawson, and Jay and Cheryl Lawson, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Forest served Sparks both as a city councilman for two terms and then as Mayor. He dedicated his life to serving his country and his community, which included 21 years of service in The U.S. Army. Forest earned the combat infantry badge in WW2 and Korea and was awarded both the bronze star and the silver star for gallantry in the pacific theatre in 1944-45.

Forest continued to serve his country and Nevada by teaching ROTC at UNR before his retirement from the Army in 1965. He later worked for North American Rockwell as a quality control manager on the Lunar excursion model in advance of the first lunar landing in 1969. Forest and Shirley were active in the Holy Cross Catholic diocese and made significant contributions to Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in the 1960’s and 1970’s as boosters and volunteers for a multitude of events, fundraisers, and activities.

Forest was beloved by his wife, his children, their friends, and his extended family and he will be sorely missed by us all.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Forest on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 1pm to 6 pm at the Harvey residence at 1450 Primio Way, Sparks, NV 89704. Extended family and friends are invited.
