Obituary for Alan Charles Oppio
Alan Charles Oppio passed away peacefully on March 29th in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was 77 years old. Alan was surrounded by his sister Catherine, daughter Alison, and son Charles. A third generation Nevadan, Alan was born on July 9th, 1940 in Reno, Nevada to Charles and Esther Oppio.
Alan grew up on the family ranches on Glendale and then Wedekind. He attended Northside Junior High and graduated from Bishop Manogue High School, where he was an all-state basketball player. Alan played basketball for one year at the University of Nevada before joining the army in 1961. He took over the family ranch on Glendale in 1962. Alan also pitched in the fast pitch softball league in Reno for almost 40 years.
Alan married Marcia Oaks and had three children; daughters Alison and Alayne and son Charles. Soon after they bought the D’Andrea Ranch in Spanish Springs and moved there in 1970.
Alan partnered up with Richard and Allen Capurro and built a successful farm in the Palomino Valley,Nevada Potato, growing alfalfa and potatoes for many seasons. He was also president of the Nevada Farm Bureau for many years. In 1997, Alan moved to Gooding, Idaho to continue farming and ranching, which he was active in until the day of his passing.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Esther and daughter Alayne. He is survived by his sister Catherine, daughter Alison, son Charles (Jennifer); grandchildren Whitney, Austin, Cade, Kennedy, Katelyn, Jensen, and Levi; great grandchildren Aiden, Jett, Brooks, and Alexi and nephews Arnie Pitts(Traci) and Austin Young.
Alan was passionate about many things- hunting, golfing, the outdoors, his family, and the New York Yankees. He will be missed greatly. There will be a service held Friday, April 6th at 3 pm at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church, with a wake to follow at Bishop Manogue High School. His family would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bishop Manogue High School in the name of the Alan Oppio Memorial Fund.
