Obituary for Estella "Teddy" Hicks Brown

Estella “Teddy” Hicks Brown passed away on February 27, 2018. She was born to Lillian Hicks and Curtice W. Hicks on March 6, 1926, in Marceline, Missouri. She attended schools in Marceline, Missouri; Nederland, Colorado and Clarkdale, Arizona. After graduating from high school in Clarkdale, she attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was a majorette in the university band and participated in various campus organizations. She was also the military ball queen and honorary major reigning over the military ball in May 16, 1947.

In 1947, she graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno earning a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree and a Secondary Education Degree. Before retiring from WCSD, she taught Secondary English and Gifted and Talented classes.

On December 23, 1949, she married John Webster “Web” Brown and they were married for 66 years. They resided in Reno almost their entire wedded life where Web operated his own engineering firm John Webster Brown Civil Engineers. Through the years, she was active in the Twentieth Century Club, PEO, and the Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents Curtice and Lillian Hicks, her brother Bruce Hicks, and sister-in law Bonnie Hicks.

She is survived by her sons Ernest C. Brown (Caroline), Curtis Brown (Terri), daughter Denise Benson (Jason) brother, Dean Hicks and her sister-in law, Nancy West Hicks and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
