Obituary for Wayne B. Adams, Jr.

Wayne Adams lived a BIG life – one that many might envy – and he enjoyed every minute of it. Wayne was a Mayflower descendant and a native Renoite who graduated from Reno High School and the University of Nevada. He spent his career in the Nevada Air National Guard and the US Air Force where he retired as a Major General after 39 years of service. In his career he had over 7000 military flying hours in 31 different makes and models of aircraft. Wayne’s many accomplishments included winning the Nevada State Amateur Golf Tournament in 1947, 48 and 49, the Silver Dollar Derby Downhill ski race in 1950, the Transcontinental Trophy Dash in the inaugural Reno National Championship Air Races in 1964, and the American Power Boat Association Points Champion and Driver of the Year awards in 1976. Wayne was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, the Air Force Association, and the Retired Officers Association.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Wayne and Beatrice Adams, and his sister Carolyn Carlon. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Kathleen (Rupp), his daughter Leslie Adams (Reno), his son Mitch Larralde (Arizona), his granddaughters Lauren and Megan (Wisconsin), several nieces and nephews, and a large number of other family and friends.Services will be held on March 1st at 1:00pm at Walton’s Funeral Home: 875 West 2nd Street, Reno, NV. A reception will follow at Sierra Air National Guard Association (SANGA): 1776 National Guard Way, Reno, NV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s honor to the Nevada Airman’s Emergency Relief Fund (NAERF). Checks made payable to NAERF can be mailed to Leslie Adams, 6136 Wycliffe Circle, Reno, NV. 89519.
