Obituary for Darryl Kent Feemster

Darryl K. Feemster, Sr. passed away early Sunday morning, November 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was hospitalized after a stroke on November 7. He was 55 years old.

Darryl was born to Dolores M. (Mendocino) Feemster and Lonnie L. Feemster, Sr. in Reno, Nevada, one of 12 children from a loving and caring family.

Darryl and Vivian Michele (May) Feemster raised three children over their 31 years of marriage.

A Reno native, graduate of Procter R. Hug High School and the University of Nevada Reno, Darryl was a youth advocate and community activist for the majority of his life. He was a life member and longtime executive committee member of the Reno-Sparks NAACP. He was a member of the Reno Cigar Lions Club and several other community service organizations. His passion and work as a volunteer for community service, children and senior advocacy earned him dozens of awards and distinguished honors.

Darryl was employed by the City of Reno as the Youth/Senior Division Manager. Darryl formerly worked for General Motors and was the Washoe County School District's Director of the Family Resource Center. He was instrumental in the development and continuous support of the Duncan-Traner Community Library. Darryl became the first Black male to serve on the Reno City Council in 1998 at the age of 37.

Darryl is survived by his mother, Dolores; sons, Darryl, Jr., and Marcus, Sr.; sisters; Cheryl Young; Carolyn Page (John); Lynette Cobb; Elaine Feemster; Janice Pickens; and brothers, Lonnie Feemster, Jr. (Debra); David Feemster, Sr. (Barbara); Robert Feemster Sr.(Tess); and Gary Feemster.

Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie L. Feemster, Sr.; brothers James and Ronald, and daughter Eboni. He leaves grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017; 11:00 a.m. at Sparks Christian Fellowship, 510 Greenbrae Drive, Sparks, NV. A reception will follow at the Boys and Girls Club, 2680 E. Ninth Street, Reno, NV. A private family burial will be at Mt. View Cemetery
