Obituary for Sally Culver Miller

Sally Culver Miller was born on August 3, 1932 in Covington, Indiana, and passed away at her home in Reno, Nevada in the early morning hours of October 6, 2017. She is survived by her six children: Ann Millerknapp, Barbara Ahrens, Sally Elizabeth Miller, Shanna Miller-Scheulin, Nathan Miller, and Matthew Miller, 13 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, and by her husband, Harry Oscar Miller.

Sally grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and studied Physical Education at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she met her husband, Harry. They moved to Southern California in 1959, where they raised their children. Sally was very active in every community she lived, participating in and leading many organizations, including Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and local branches of the Republican Party. She attended church services nearly every Sunday over the course of her life, and was very involved in the churches she attended, teaching Sunday School, AWANA, Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School, in addition to being active in other aspects of the church. She also taught swimming, renovated Victorian houses in Reno, and completed many cross-country trips with her children during summer vacation from school. She was a skilled seamstress, making the dresses - and all (very) last-minute “alterations” - for many of her children’s weddings, and later doll clothes and prom dresses for her granddaughters. She was well-known for her extensive hat collection, which she loved to embellish and wear for all occasions.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1900 1st St Sparks, NV 89431. A reception will be held following the service at the church. Memorial gifts may be given to Our Savior Lutheran Church. If using a check for your memorial, please indicate “Sally Miller Memorial” in the memo line.
