Obituary for Evelyn Ruth Connell

Evelyn Ruth Connell passed away peacefully in Reno, Nevada on September 29, 2017 at the age of 97. Evelyn was born Evelyn Owen in Lone Tree, Iowa and grew up on an Iowa farm. She graduated from Lone Tree High School.

Evelyn was married to Earl H. Lemons, who was killed in a tragic military air crash, leaving her with two young children, Edward and Joyce. Evelyn later married Robert “Doc” Connell, had a son, David and remained married until Robert passed in 2011.

Evelyn was proud of her resilience and persistence in remaining independent until health issues forced her into assisted living earlier this year. She enjoyed walking and musical shows and visits from her children. She was employed as a dental assistant earlier in life and participated in managing the family business, Connell Beverage in Iowa City, before she and Doc relocated to Nevada in 1972.

She is survived by her children, Edward Lemons of Reno, Nevada; David Connell of Phoenix, Arizona; and Joyce Kofron of Iowa City, Iowa. She also had six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lawrence, Clayton, Harold and Leona.
