George Charles   Angelis
George Charles Angelis best known to his friends and family as “The Greek” passed away peacefully on August 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 1st, 1928 in Lynn Massachusetts to Charles and Bessie Angeloupoulos who immigrated from Greece.

George spent his youth in Peabody Massachusetts and then later enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 as a young man proud to serve his country. He served as a Storekeeper Third SK3 on the island of Guam during World War II. He was awarded metals for outstanding conduct. At the completion of his service to his country he was proud fully awarded an honorable discharge and moved to San Francisco, CA to be with his father, brothers and sisters. In 1950, George had an opportunity to play for the San Francisco Seals Baseball Club.

George spent his life enjoying time with his family most of all. He loved playing golf, teaching his grandkids to fish and spending a lot of time in the kitchen cooking authentic Greek food, he was very proud of his Greek heritage. He and Frances were snowbirds and looked forward to each winter traveling to Mexico and Yuma Arizona to reconnect with all of their friends. He was a teamster, a truck driver, a cab driver and a major tease. He often told stories about his colorful cab driving experiences. His was passionately involved in the gaming industry for over 25 years. Having worked at various casinos in Reno NV and in Atlantic City NJ. He was a proud member of the Harold’s Club Pioneers. Since 1995 George could be found cooking and making daily food deliveries for his son at Paisan’s Deli.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, his step parents Alice Angelos, Joe Connors and his wife Frances Cerfoglio Angelis. He is survived and will be missed greatly by brothers Frank Angelos, Chris Angelos (Doris), sisters Patricia Connors (Robert), Stella Sari (Bob) and Georgia Angelos. Three sons David Bugica (Barbara), Kenneth Bugica and Michael Angelis (Angela). Six grandchildren; Brad Bugica, Ryan Bugica, Kimberly Moulliet (Justin), Cara Bugica, Sam Angelis and Jacob Angelis and 7 great-grandchildren; Jillian Bugica, Tyler Bugica, Austin Bugica, Emma Bugica, Chloe Moulliet, Brayden Moulliet, Amber Orton and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to share a special thank you to Jean Peterson for being such a caring and loving companion to George. We also commend the staff at Life Care Center of Reno.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at O’Brien-Rogers & Crosby Funeral Home, 600 W. 2nd Street, Reno. Recitation of the Holy Rosary is scheduled for 10:30 am, Wednesday, August 30th with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 30th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Reno.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests masses or gift to The Children’s Cabinet, 1090 S Rock Blvd., Reno NV 89502
