Obituary for Helen K. Gavica

Helen K. Gavica
Helen K. Gavica
Nov. 20, 1924 – March 28, 2017

Helen was born to Nicholas and Anna Krutz on November 18, 1924 in Oneida, PA. She left school early as a child to work and support her family.

On a trip out west she was introduced to Joe Gavica by her brother-in-law Frank. They were married Feb. 8, 1953.

Helen was a hard working homemaker and wife. She raised 3 boys; Joe, Wayne and Gary. Her busy days included canning fruits and vegetables from their garden. She also made cheese, butter and baked bread all at the small farm known as “The Gavica Ranch” in Verdi.

Helen attended mass regularly until she wasn’t physically able to. She was a longtime member of The Eagle F.O.E. Club, The O.F.C. and an Auxiliary Member of the Verdi Fire Dept. She enjoyed passing out candy to the kids at the Annual Easter egg hunt.
Helen loved her animals; especially her cats. They would always be found sitting in her lap as she watched T.V.

She left this earth to meet her savior March 28th, 2017. Helen battled Dementia and Macular Degeneration. She was 92.

Her husband Joe, her parents and 10 siblings preceded her in death and on March 3rd her daughter-in-law Terrie.

Helen leaves behind her 3 sons Joe (Rose), Wayne and Gary (Patti), her Brother Fred, and 3 sisters Mary, Margaret, and Catherine, 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved her family and she will be greatly missed.

A Rosary in her honor is scheduled for Friday April 7th at 6pm at Walton’s Funeral Home (875 W. 2nd Street, Reno). A Mass will be held Saturday April 8th at 11:30am at St. Thomas Cathedral Catholic Church (310 W. 2nd Street, Reno).

No public burial or reception is scheduled. Donations can be made in her honor to The Carter Center or your favorite charity.
