Obituary for Jose Antonio (Tony) Trevino

Jose Antonio (Tony) Trevino was born to Joe O. Trevino and Carmen Olaeta Trevino on November 8, 1943 in Winnemucca, Nevada. Tony was a third generation Nevadan whose maternal grandparents were early Basque immigrants into the Lovelock area.
Tony was raised and schooled in Lovelock, graduating from Pershing High School in 1962, as an All-American selection in football. Upon graduation from the University of Nevada, where he was a halfback and kicker on the Wolf Pack football team, Tony was a Biology teacher and coach in northern Nevada high schools for 30 years.
After brief teaching stints in Battle Mountain, Douglas County, and western Australia, Tony taught for 20 years at Edward Reed High School, and finally for 5 years at Sparks High School.
He delighted in visiting and conversing with former students he would see in his travels around town. After his retirement from the Washoe County School District in 2001, Trevino taught at the elementary level at Brookfield School and Saint Alberts Catholic School. For several years he was a substitute elementary school teacher for Washoe County.
Trevino was a cancer survivor of 12 years and was battling Parkinson’s disease at the time of his death. Tony is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Dennis Lauderbaugh. Tony is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nickie Trevino; sons, Thomas Lauderbaugh, and John Trevino; daughters, Teresa Trevino, and Allison Downs; and grandson, Joseph Lauderbaugh.
Per Tony’s request there will be no services, but please pray for such a sweet man.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations for a scholarship in Tony’s name to help a Pershing High School student attend the University of Nevada. Please send to Pershing County High School, P.O. Box 990 Lovelock, NV 89419.
